JobNerve is job management software for contractors — estimates, scheduling, invoices, inventory and a time clock. This page explains what the software collects, why, and who can see it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
The short version. We collect what the software needs to do its job and nothing else. We do not sell your data or your customers’ data, and we do not use it for advertising. Crew location is only ever recorded while a person is clocked in, and their employer decides whether it is recorded at all.
Who we are
JobNerve is operated from Wisconsin, United States. For any privacy question, or to ask for a copy or deletion of your data, email jobnerve@gmail.com.
Two kinds of people
This distinction matters for the rest of the page.
- Contractors — the businesses that subscribe to JobNerve, and the staff and crew who log in.
- Their customers — the homeowners and property owners who receive an estimate or invoice. They generally have no account; their details are entered by the contractor.
For a contractor’s business records, the contractor is the data controller and JobNerve is the processor. In plain terms: it is their data, held on their behalf, and we act on their instructions.
What we collect
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Name, email, hashed password, role | To create an account and control what each person can see |
| Business records — customers, estimates, jobs, invoices, payments, inventory, photos, notes | This is the product; it is the work the software exists to manage |
| Time clock entries — clock-in and clock-out times | Timesheets and payroll |
| Location while clocked in | See the section below; it is the part people rightly ask about |
| Basic technical logs — IP address, app or browser version, timestamps | Security, abuse prevention, and fixing faults |
We do not collect advertising identifiers, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and the product contains no third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
Location, specifically
The JobNerve Field mobile app can record a crew member’s location, including while the app is in the background or the screen is locked. Because that is a serious thing to ask for, here is exactly how it behaves.
- Only while clocked in. Location is recorded between clocking in and clocking out, and at no other time. The server refuses any location sent when the person is not on the clock. Clocking out stops it.
- The employer chooses the mode. Each contractor sets one of three. Off — no location is stored at all. Current — only the most recent point is kept, and each new one replaces it. Breadcrumbs — the trail of points during that shift is kept, attached to the timesheet entry.
- Why it exists. So a timesheet can be checked against where the work happened, and so an office can see which crew is nearest a callout. It is a record of a shift, not a record of a person.
- Who can see it. The employee, their supervisor, and administrators at their own company. Nobody at another company can see it. We do not sell it, share it with data brokers, or use it for anything else.
- Background collection requires the operating system’s permission, which you can decline or revoke at any time in your device settings. The app keeps working; it simply stops recording location.
If you are a crew member and you are not sure what your employer has switched on, ask them. We would encourage any contractor using this feature to tell their crew plainly rather than let them discover it.
Who else touches the data
- Hosting. Servers operated by Hetzner Online GmbH, which stores the data on our behalf.
- Email delivery. Estimates, invoices and password resets are sent through an email provider so they reach the inbox.
- Payments. Where card payment is enabled, card details go directly to the payment processor. We never see or store a card number.
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We will disclose data where the law genuinely requires it, and we will tell the affected customer unless we are legally forbidden from doing so.
How long we keep it
Business records are kept while the contractor’s account is active, because that is the point of them — last year’s invoices still need to be there. Location follows the mode above; in Current mode only the newest point exists at any moment. When an account is closed its data is deleted within 60 days, except anything we must retain for tax or legal reasons.
Your data is yours
A contractor can export their data at any time, in a standard format, without asking us and at no cost. If JobNerve were ever to shut down, customers would be given notice and a window to export before anything was deleted. Being able to leave is a basic condition of asking anyone to rely on us.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, and to object to some processing. Email jobnerve@gmail.com and we will action it. If you are an employee of a contractor using JobNerve we may route your request through your employer, since the records are theirs — but we will help them fulfil it.
Security
Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text. Traffic is encrypted in transit. Each company’s data is separated, and every request is checked against the signed-in person’s company and role. No system is perfect; if we discover a breach affecting personal data we will notify affected customers promptly.
Children
JobNerve is business software and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters we will update the date at the top and tell account holders by email. We will not quietly broaden what we collect.
