JobNerve is job management software for contractors — estimates, scheduling, invoices, inventory and a time clock. This page explains what the software collects, why, and who can see it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
The short version. We collect what the software needs to do its job and nothing else. We do not sell your data or your customers’ data, and we do not use it for advertising. Crew location is only ever recorded while a person is clocked in, and their employer decides whether it is recorded at all.
Who we are
JobNerve is run by JobNerve, LLC, a Wisconsin company (“JobNerve”, “we”, “us”). For any privacy question, or to ask for a copy or deletion of your data, email jobnerve@gmail.com.
Two kinds of people
This distinction matters for the rest of the page.
- Contractors — the businesses that subscribe to JobNerve, and the staff and crew who log in.
- Their customers — the homeowners and property owners who receive an estimate or invoice. They generally have no account; their details are entered by the contractor.
For a contractor’s business records, the contractor is the data controller and JobNerve is the processor. In plain terms: it is their data, held on their behalf, and we act on their instructions.
What we collect
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Name, email, hashed password, role | To create an account and control what each person can see |
| Business records — customers, estimates, jobs, invoices, payments, inventory, photos, notes | This is the product; it is the work the software exists to manage |
| Time clock entries — clock-in and clock-out times | Timesheets and payroll |
| Location while clocked in | See the section below; it is the part people rightly ask about |
| When a customer opens an estimate link: the time, their IP address and browser | So the contractor knows the estimate was seen |
| When a customer approves: the name they type to sign, and the time | A record of what was agreed |
| Two-step login secret for admins, encrypted | To check the 6-digit sign-in code |
| A notification address for your phone or browser, if you turn alerts on | To send alerts like “estimate approved” |
| Basic technical logs — IP address, app or browser version, timestamps | Security, abuse prevention, and fixing faults |
During early beta testing, some app sessions were screen-recorded to find bugs. That is switched off for everyone, and the last recordings are deleted automatically by 16 October 2026.
We do not collect advertising identifiers, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and the product contains no third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
Location, specifically
The JobNerve Field mobile app can record a crew member’s location, including while the app is in the background or the screen is locked. Because that is a serious thing to ask for, here is exactly how it behaves.
- Only while clocked in. Location is recorded between clocking in and clocking out, and at no other time. The server refuses any location sent when the person is not on the clock. Clocking out stops it.
- The employer chooses the mode. Each contractor sets one of three. Off — no location is stored at all. Current — only the most recent point is kept, and each new one replaces it. Breadcrumbs — the trail of points during that shift is kept, attached to the timesheet entry.
- Why it exists. So a timesheet can be checked against where the work happened, and so an office can see which crew is nearest a callout. It is a record of a shift, not a record of a person.
- Who can see it. The employee, their supervisor, and administrators at their own company. Nobody at another company can see it. We do not sell it, share it with data brokers, or use it for anything else.
- Background collection requires the operating system’s permission, which you can decline or revoke at any time in your device settings. The app keeps working; it simply stops recording location.
If you are a crew member and you are not sure what your employer has switched on, ask them. We would encourage any contractor using this feature to tell their crew plainly rather than let them discover it.
Who else touches the data
- Hosting. Servers operated by Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany, which store the data on our behalf. A backup is made every night and kept for up to 30 days on a second Hetzner server.
- Email delivery. Estimates and invoices go out through the contractor’s own connected email account. Account emails, such as password resets, come from JobNerve’s own Gmail account, run by Google.
- Payments. Card and bank payments, and contractors’ JobNerve subscriptions, are handled by Stripe. Card and bank details go directly to Stripe. We never see or store a card or bank account number.
- Fonts. Our pages load their lettering from Google Fonts, so Google sees your IP address when a page loads, as with most websites.
- Our own alerts. When a company asks to change its plan, a short note with the company name and the person’s name and email is sent to our team’s phones through a notification service (ntfy.sh).
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We will disclose data where the law genuinely requires it, and we will tell the affected customer unless we are legally forbidden from doing so.
Connected email accounts (Google and Microsoft)
A contractor can connect their own email account so estimates and invoices go out from their own address. When they do:
- What we access. Only what that needs. Gmail connected with Google sign-in: sending mail as them, nothing else. JobNerve cannot read that inbox. Outlook connected with Microsoft sign-in, or other email connected with an app password: sending mail as them, and reading their inbox list and messages when they open JobNerve’s Email screen.
- What we store. The sign-in permission (Google and Microsoft) or the app password (other email), encrypted. A record of mail sent through JobNerve (recipient, subject, date). We do not copy or store the contents of their inbox — messages are fetched when viewed and not kept.
- What we never do. We do not use email data for advertising, do not sell it, do not use it to train AI models, and do not let people read it except when the contractor asks us for help, for security, or where the law requires.
- Who it is shared with. No one. Google and Microsoft email data is not shared with, transferred to or sold to any third party. The only outside service involved is the data-center company that hosts JobNerve’s servers, which stores the encrypted sign-in permission and cannot read it.
- How it is protected. The sign-in permission or app password is encrypted before it is stored (AES-256), and all traffic between JobNerve, the contractor and Google or Microsoft is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS).
- Who can use it. A personal connection can only be used by that person’s own login. A connection an admin sets up for the whole company can be used by every admin of that company. JobNerve staff can see it only during a support session (below).
- Disconnecting. The contractor can disconnect at any time from JobNerve’s Email settings, which deletes the stored permission immediately. They can also revoke access from their Google or Microsoft account settings.
JobNerve’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
When we help you (support sessions)
If you ask us for help, a JobNerve team member can sign in to your company for up to 2 hours and see what an admin sees, including a connected inbox. We do this only when you ask, or to look into a security problem. Every support session is logged with who, when and which company.
Connected QuickBooks Online
A contractor can connect their own QuickBooks Online company so their books stay up to date without typing anything twice. When they do:
- Which way it goes. One way, from JobNerve into QuickBooks: invoices once they are sent, the payments on them, the customers on those invoices, and voids. JobNerve does not import or change anything else in QuickBooks.
- What we read. Only what is needed to avoid duplicates and post correctly: the company name, whether a customer or invoice number already exists, the income account and sales tax codes that invoice lines post to, and the records JobNerve itself created.
- What we store. The sign-in permission, encrypted. For each record we sent, its QuickBooks ID and when it was sent, so later changes update the same record instead of making a new one. We do not keep a copy of the contractor’s QuickBooks data.
- Who it is shared with. No one. It is not sold, not used for advertising and not used to train AI models. The only outside service involved is the company that hosts JobNerve’s servers, which stores the encrypted permission and cannot read it.
- How it is protected. The permission is encrypted before it is stored (AES-256), traffic to Intuit is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS), and only the contractor’s own administrators can connect, pause or disconnect it.
- Disconnecting. Disconnect any time from JobNerve’s Settings. That revokes our access at Intuit and deletes the stored permission immediately. Records already copied stay in QuickBooks, because they are the contractor’s books. Access can also be removed from within QuickBooks.
How long we keep it
Business records are kept while the contractor’s account is active, because that is the point of them — last year’s invoices still need to be there. Location follows the mode above; in Current mode only the newest point exists at any moment. Canceling a subscription does not delete the account’s data. When the account owner asks us to delete it, we do so within 60 days of the request, except anything we must retain for tax or legal reasons.
Your data is yours
A contractor can export their data at any time, in a standard format, without asking us and at no cost. If JobNerve were ever to shut down, customers would be given notice and a window to export before anything was deleted. Being able to leave is a basic condition of asking anyone to rely on us.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, and to object to some processing. Email jobnerve@gmail.com and we will action it. Step-by-step instructions for deleting an account or data are on Delete your account or data. If you are an employee of a contractor using JobNerve we may route your request through your employer, since the records are theirs — but we will help them fulfill it.
Security
Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text. Traffic is encrypted in transit. Each company’s data is separated, and every request is checked against the signed-in person’s company and role. No system is perfect; if we discover a breach affecting personal data we will notify affected customers promptly.
Children
JobNerve is business software and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters we will update the date at the top and tell account holders by email. We will not quietly broaden what we collect.
